Multi‐Racial Records (a decade of unitin’)
2009 sees Multi-Racial Records reaching a humble milestone in the history of this independent South African urban music label, A decade of “unitin thru da ridim”, a decade of supplying the urban music listeners with hits that will ring through their ears for years to come, a decade of setting a precedence of persistence for the quality of South African house music, which has been followed by an abundance of loyal consumers & listeners.
Established in 1999 this record label has set out to establish a well balanced sound
within the urban dance market by focusing on developing a new brew of local urban producers with talent and bringing a fresh new sound into the local urban dance industry, many of today’s top local house producers (Black Coffee, Art Jones, Simza, Rowick Deep, Shota, Sisco etc) have either worked through or been influenced by their time at Multi-Racial studios and still maintain an active relation to the label by sticking to a rule of law to focus on the local talent & through building platforms for producers in the South African house music industry. It has become a time proven formula that South Africans are accepting the quality of local house music as it is making an impact on international audience; Multi-Racial Records has played a huge role in this transformation of international & local perception by building repertoire of releases that have made a substantial impact in the urban dance industry. Their new offering is a 3CD set compilation celebrating these 10 years.
CD 1 – THE PAST (mixed by Tinos’)
Tinos’ is one of the Dj’s & promoters to be running one of the longest running monthly events in Pretoria “Smoooove - Rococo” this event has been running in conjunction with Multi-Racial Records support and averages a following of 800 – 1000 people monthly, so the producers saw it fit for Tinos’ to represent the first CD. This CD is compiled with all of Multi-Racial Records past hits including: Sis n’ Jones - “Set Your Mind Free”, Sabside & Simza – “Mina beng’dzakiwe”, G.Family – “People with Bullets”, Rowick Deep – “I Want You” plus many more other hits.
CD 2 – THE FUTURE (Mixed by Simza)
Simza is no stranger to the South African house scene being signed under Multi-Racial Records & running a sub label (Restless Swazi ) with Multi-Racial Records for the past 5 years, he has been a Dj/Producer behind some of the hits that has come out of the Multi-Racial stable & has been approached to mix “THE FUTURE” CD which is compiled with new productions from the Multi-Racial label as well as productions from friends and partners of Multi-Racial, prominent producers such as Black Coffee, Christos, Shota, Demor, Rowick Deep and more, some of the producers to look forward to on this CD.
CD 3 – THE TRIBUTE (ART JONES unmixed bonus CD )
With the passing on of Art Jones earlier this year, it was decided to include a bonus CD on this compilation set, with released and unreleased material from this producer who influenced an industry with his sound from Durban kwaito to afro pop, to the South African house - Art Jones played a major role in creating hits for Artists in the music industry. Artist such as Lebo Mathosa, Shana, Tira , Big Nuz, Fisherman, Phumeza, Zano, Theo (Mafikizolo) and others all called on Art Jones to give them the magic hit they searched for , and now we saw it fit to honor him with a “TRIBUTE CD” with unreleased works never been heard be compiled alongside other we’ll known tracks he was known for.
This compiled CD set supplies the demand that people have been expecting from Multi-Racial Records, without compromise it has once again set precedence to fulfill the House music listeners’ ears.
